Ellen Ripley remains one of the most famous movie characters ever and for good reason. She's a hardened final girl with a strong fighting spirit, but with deep issues and personality flaws that gave her character depth, challenging gender roles at a time when sci-fi and horror genres were filled with cliche and shallow female characters that were perceived as purely innocent or weak. Generally, Ripley is presented as level-headed and tough, and she fights back against the Xenomorph threat with smarts and ingenuity. Despite this, Ripley can be strict, cynical, and sarcastic, and her crew can find it tough to get along with her. Especially after her encounters with the Xenomorphs and being the last surviving member of her crew, these traits only amplify along with intense feelings of PTSD, but she never loses her tough spirit or heroic tendencies. That she can overcome multiple Xenomorph incidents and intense trauma only shows the great power of human determination. Deservedly, Sigourney Weaver's career-defining role changed the face of women in genre films forever, garnering multiple awards and nominations and living on as one of the greatest movie characters ever.
