sugar is literally fast-absorbing-energy. it *does* give you energy, it's just short-lived. and for kids, it'll last a little longer than for adults, but both of them will have a crash if that's all they ate.


And in particular, fructose bypasses insulin regulation, so that'll give you a bunch of energy regardless of your current stores. Sucrose is 50% fructose, high-fructose corn syrup is even higher (big surprise there). Not to say that there's no psychological element there, but there's definitely a physiological one either.
