Topic	Why didn't Thanos just cause half the population to become infertile?

They show early on that his portals are very capable of severing an arm. Just cut it off of him. Should've at least tried and had the stones disrupt the portal or something. I 100% haven't seen the movie so I'm not sure, but didn't Doctor Strange looks through a lot of possible futures and jazz?
