That's really only true if you're trying to build a top-of-the-line computer, and even then the only thing that means is that your computer is no longer top-of-the-line. You'll still be just as capable of playing everything you wanted to play when you built it, as well as everything to come out for a good, long while. I built mine in 2011, and the only parts I've replaced are the GPU and PSU (the new GPU needed a stronger one), and even that was mostly because the GPU I started with was on the lower-end side because I'd actually bought it to add to my old prebuilt (but then it didn't fit).
