It's probably not an exageration to say most modern western music was built on his shoulders whether intentional or not.

He was highly prasied in his time for being decades ahead of the curve and was pretty much worshipped by high scale music fans/supporters/historians.

But the keyword there is "was"

No one born since 1989 seems to mention his name and the people who do talk about him are dying 40,000 by the day with no reinforcements.
