TopicI feel like most everything I've wanted from Hollywood has come to pass, yet...

* I've said I wanted more diversity. We've gotten that or are in the process of getting it.

* I've said I wanted legit female heroes and not patronizing films like Catwoman or generic side-character-in-black-tights like Black Widow. We've gotten that. Movies like Wonder Woman and Mad Max: Fury Road kick all kinds of ass.

* A long time ago, I hoped Godzilla would make a positive impact with American audiences. We're getting that now.

* I wanted people to stop using rape as an edgy villain moment or a "shocking" scene. The people that pushed this shit were just rape fetishists looking to get their jollies up anyway. It's virtually disappeared in wake of the #metoo movement.

* I've said that Shaft should never be remade, but rather his legacy should be preserved. We're getting that. Shaft (Richard Roundtree) came back, his nephew (Samuel L. Jackson), and the rest of his family with him.

* I hoped that dark and edgy would pass and that even kinda suggested the likable semi-comedic guy as the protagonist. We're getting that. Less Edward the Vampire / brooding Batman protagonists and more Chris Pratt types.

Yet, I still don't feel altogether happy with the current Hollywood product. Some of the old problems have been replaced with new ones. I still feel like there are several creative limitations. My only real gripes are the way that modern fight scenes are edited and the way that there's a certain accepted type of female characters. (Emphasis: singular.)

Beyond that, there's nothing really to get upset about. I feel like it's head and shoulders above what it was a decade ago. Maybe I'm just mad that I'm watching movies instead of writing movies.
