Treat this like a job interview in the respect that actually, you're there to discover if this is a good fit for you. If you turn up just thinking about what the magic combination of words and behaviour is to hoodwink your employer into picking you, you're not likely to make a good impression. And critically, you won't actually discover if this truly is a good fit for you or not.

So, think about the possibility that the date doesn't go how you want it to. Really, this just means that it was a bad fit, and the worst thing that happened that day is you discovered something new, had a conversation with someone you hadn't met before. You grew a little bit. So while it's not the best outcome you hoped for, it's also not a loss. You had an experience you otherwise wouldn't have had.

Approach dates with the view in mind that you're really just going to spend some time in the company of someone new.

Honestly, this attitude has done me a lot of good in dating. In the times that I scored, it created a relaxed atmosphere and did not send off desperate vibes (because I wasn't desperate). And in the times that I didn't score, I was able to leave things gracefully and not feel like a chump.
