I've been a liberal my entire life. I grew up in a blue collar household. My mom is an independent artist and my dad is a tradesman. My brother was in the metal and hardcore scene in the '90s. My friends have been in the punk scene for decades. I'm far from being a western conservative in any traditional sense.
And I totally think stuff like this is upsetting, and I DO think that most far leftists - like the stuff TC and his friends are posting - is totally counterproductive. I've literally been kicked out of Facebook groups in the past for civil discussion, saying that education and rehabilitation are key -- not blocking, walking out, and throwing tantrums. I was honestly very polite in those groups -- not like I am here on CE. For example, there was a group making fun of white people stereotypes. It wasn't meant to be political. Some of the mods were non-binary, and were getting upset about posters who were confused or thought there were only two genders. They weren't "flaming," they were literally just ignorant in some cases. Instead of education they just kicked them out of the group, and I commented saying that's not at all how you inspire change and then I got attacked and blocked.
I can point to tons of examples in my own life where I was ignorant, and had people just attacked me or avoided any discourse I would've remained ignorant. I remember being confused about people being upset about the word "female." I remember being big into alternative medicine. I remember struggling to understand why I felt cultural and racial identity was important but I felt gender identity wasn't - and was pro-gender neutrality. All of those opinions of mine were changed from discourse -- either civil or uncivil. If I would've just been blocked from discussion I never would've evolved.
This whole gen z, far left generation that loves its digital vigilantism, deplatforming, and/or avoidance of discussion is so far from progressive. It's really upsetting and has made me lose so much faith in people over the last few years.
That's the whole thing that makes the far left ideology so harmful. You, I, and everyone are ignorant, if you don't tolerate ignorance, you don't tolerate anyone. You only exclude and divide, and only harm can come from that. ---
