The Supreme Court is not well. And the people know it. Perhaps the Court can heal itself before the public demands it be restructured in order to reduce the influence of politics. Particularly on the urgent issue of gun control, a nation desperately needs it to heal.

Putting aside the weirdness of threatening the Supreme Court, the case itself is an interesting one. NYC has a law that a handgun registered in New York City cannot leave the city limits for any reason. If you want to go to a range outside of the city, if you own a home or cabin or something outside the city and want to take it there, if you want to hunt with it, all illegal.

The city spent five years defending the law as this case worked its way through the lower courts, claiming that it was necessary for public safety. Now that it's before SCOTUS they've completely abandoned that tactic. Instead of defending the law on its merits they've gotten New York State to pass a law that nullifies the city's law, and are claiming that the Court should moot the case (ignoring that if the Court does moot the case they'll just roll back the state law and reinstate the city's law).

It's all very bizarre, and now senators are threatening the Court if they don't rule a certain way. What.
