Hopefully they start making games where your choices actually matter.

They're never going to matter THAT much, because you're never going to have a dozen radically different endings to any game in the modern era. It would require so much development time (and thus money), no studio would ever do it.

At best, you can hope for the "journey" to differ even if the "destination" doesn't. How you get from Point A to Point B can tell a relatively different story even if you're still going to Point B regardless, and can't just leap directly to Point Q.

That being said, I thought they handled things well in Tales from the Borderlands. I played it and then watched my nephew play it, and there was a lot in the middle that was blatantly different, because we made one major choice differently. And even in cases where the same thing happened, it was somewhat recontextualized by previous choices.

I admit the Batman game felt kind of railroady at times, as did the Game of Thrones story, but it felt like maybe they were a bit too constrained by the existing settings/characterization with those, and the company was already started to crank under the pressure of making too many games.

The Minecraft games were surprisingly better than they had any right to be, though the second season wasn't really as strong as the first, because it felt like they really didn't have a good idea of where they wanted to go with the narrative.
