Your stat is incorrect.

Its a 2016 survey of 4,000 people. Im not sure how they were able to determine a stat regarding the entire population of America from 4,000 people, but here it is.

A yet-to-be published survey of 4,000 Americans conducted by public health researchers at Harvard and Northeastern universities found that half the nations guns are owned by just three percent of the population, The Guardian has reported. As much as I hate Snopes for being a blatantly left leaning source, and often times getting their facts horribly wrong due to them injecting said bias, the source is here: https://www.snopes.com/news/2016/09/20/3-percent-americans-half-the-guns/

So even this 3% is still 7.7 Million people. Also keep in mind many of these hardcore super-owners (look at Snopes using the big scary wording) can be made up of people owning as little as Eight guns.

In 2018, about 43 percent of U.S. households had at least one gun in possession
