That seems like a weird stat... but I guess it makes sense, if you count production stock as being 'owned'

But apparently, much like wealth, there is a small group of super elite that owns more than half the guns.

Not "much like" wealth, it's because of wealth.

While you can get a serviceable shotgun for $100, a halfway decent 1911 will set you back $1000, and there's people with collections of hundreds of guns.

Total, I have 6 pistols and 28 "long guns" a combination of shotguns and rifles(no AR style as I am not a try hard Rambo wannabe) that are used solely for varies hunting or pest control. Also, redundancy as most of them are on my ranch and theres a gun at most points of the house and shop for protection against hogs, coyotes, or the like as I have cats and at one point had a dog.

You will either freaking love it or hate it. There is no in between. I have had people on my ranch that were VERY anti gun shoot something, fall in love with it and buy a gun themselves shortly after. I have had people that wanted to be like a spy or something, let them shoot a 9mm and they hate it and lost all interest in guns. Granted I also had people I would never let near my guns again. One that sticks out is a buddy I want to highschool with that he unloaded my semi 12 gauge into a tree and wanted to do keep doing it until he brought the tree down. That is not the type of person that should be around guns.

cheap doesnt mean trash. that said you can get better guns for not much more. the first 1911 i ever owned was a rock island that i paid $370 for. that thing was boringly reliable (no i wouldnt trade my dan wesson for one, but if it works it works). you can also get police trade in guns like M&P's and Glock .40's for $300 that have barely been fired. you can also go to the used surplus markets and pick up $200 tokarev or makarov's. PSA are also making a killing on their $350-400 AR's which ARE good guns. plus you have shotguns like the maverick 88's which are 99% a mossberg 500 for sub $200.

obviously if youre a serious collector you arnt going to skimp out much, but there is no shortage of GOOD reliable firearms for not a ton of money. you can very easily start up a good rounded collection for under $1000.

i personally don't like them because of the noise
all of the other stuff is cool tho
i'd prefer to hip fire with a revolver

really it seems like (and this isnt directed at mead) a lot of anti-gun people tend to say they themselves couldnt be trusted with a firearm. they might end up killing themselves or hurting someone else. they seem to have such a low opinion of themselves and what they are capable of which is really a serious problem with todays youth.

I just managed to snag an xtrema 2 about a month ago, and I fully intend to put at least 500 rounds through the fucker before the new year.

So even this 3% is still 7.7 Million people. Also keep in mind many of these hardcore super-owners (look at Snopes using the big scary wording) can be made up of people owning as little as Eight guns.

I have an uncle who owns about 50. I don't see the point because he uses 2 different ones to hunt, depending on what he's hunting. He isn't a collector really, but just likes buying guns.

I have one shotgun. Been looking for a nice rifle too, probably pick up a good surplus one to save money.

I disagree on this, but it is fun. I own a shotgun and a revolver and have not used them in years. Definitely nice to have. I have more experience with rifles, but I don't own one.
