Topic | ITT I explain the reasoning for owning an expensive watch as a smart person+pics |
No_U_L7 10/13/19 9:14:55 PM #1: | Pic of my latest watch in natural sunlight: https://imgur.com/j9vC7TC It obviously looks like a "high end" watch in the sunlight and is just absolutely beautiful. First off, the reasons I even "need" a watch: 1. it completes my outfit 2. i can't take take my phone out in meetings to check the time 3. i appreciate the engineering that goes into an automatic watch (powered by kinetic movement, not battery powered, hence the higher price) now the reasons it's acceptable imo: 1. guys get very little jewelry to wear, it's really just the watch (and wedding ring but that's never going to happen lol). girls can wear thousands of dollars in jewelry, including 10k+ wedding rings...what's a couple thousand on a watch in comparison? 2. i can afford it. don't buy it if you can't. people always say "i'd rather spend that money on traveling", etc. i can afford to do both. if you can't and want to prioritize something else, knock yourself out 3. people always forget: high end watches have HIGH salvage value. I recently sold my entire collection, including some watches i've owned for 5+ years and got back 75% of what i paid. when i sell my latest watches i expect to get back about 90% of the value. say i buy a 2k watch and i sell it for 1.7k after 2 years...that's 85% of the value back and i spent only $300 or $150 each year i owned it...is that really that big of a deal? 4. i'll try to say this without getting too condescending...i have a refined eye and sophisticated tastes...you cannot copy the styles i want for any cheaper. you may get similar colors and something that looks "similar" to untrained eyes...but it is not the same. look at the color of the dial in my pic and you can immediately tell that it is a high end watch and that can't be duplicated for cheaper. 5. i understand what i'm buying: i know the exact type of crystal, lume, watch movement, etc. i've done my research and compared it to the market value. i'm not just paying for a name brand...i know EXACTLY what i'm paying for. --- ...
