It seems pretty obvious that any players they still had left after a year of being a terrible game with no real overall improvement are so broken in spirit and incapable of breaking their cycle of addiction you could do pretty much anything to them and they'd grab their ankles and accept it. I think a lot of the outrage over the initial announcement was coming from people who don't even play, or people who do play and complain about everything but keep playing.
