It has no effect on if a sperm fertilizes an egg, but, it could possibly have an effect on if a child actually survives pregnancy (although as far as I know, there is no current link to that, it's possible).

I do know genetics are the basis of a baby's blood type though, which means it's fairly likely for a baby's blood type to be compatible with both parents blood types. Positive blood types are dominant as well (and generally work with negative blood types I believe) which again makes it likely that even if a child has a mother with a negative blood type, the baby would still be compatible with her blood.

I believe the way it works is something like this.

Mother is AA negative, father is BB positive, baby ends up AB positive. Now without looking up a chart, I think (and could be wrong) that AB positive can receive blood from both AA neg and BB positive.
