Something some onions/potatos in socks absorb "toxins" something something cure.

I had my ultra-new york-liberal brother-in-law recommend putting onions in my sock to help with a bug I got. I really had to hold my tongue on that one. Medicine is not the place to experiment with home remedies and traditional cures. We don't need those anymore. We have an extremely robust medical community chomping at the bit to find new cures they can invent or bring to market. If someone could isolate onion powder's active ingredients and put it on an adhesive bandage for your foot and get FDA approval, they would have already.

I don't want to downplay that simple herbs can have beneficial effects--Dramamine is basically just the isolated active ingredient in ginger. But make sure that stuff has been clinically tested first, because most stuff just doesn't, you know, do anything. And also, we cannot excrete any significant amount of "toxins" through our skin, our pores are just not mechanically designed for that. That's why we have a liver, kidney, and urinary tract.

Why the hell would an onion or potato absorb toxins?!
