The problem is that we're never going to actually have an actual conversation about the mental state of any of the candidates (as evidenced by Trump), so "don't speculate and diagnose" just serves more as "ignore their mental health". Naw, I think there's a serious conversation to be had about age and average cognitive and brain health that will happen by the next election, given this cycles heavily aged candidates. But this conversation is different than "my political opponent clearly has dementia/psychopathy/whatever else". A conversation about a particular person's mental status is very different than a conversation of ensuring that in general we have candidates that are well.
