And if the organization can't be trusted to do its job, why should we be throwing money at it instead of using those funds on an organization that actually does what the WHO was supposed to do?

And which other organization would that be? It's all well and good to say that the WHO isn't doing a good enough job and needs to be replaced, but without a suitable replacement, defunding the WHO during the midst of the worst global public health crisis in a century means there's no longer going to be an international organization capable of working to manage that crisis. This sort of move needs to be saved for a time when the headline can instead read "Trump spearheads international decision to divert funds from WHO to new global public health agency," and even then it really shouldn't happen until the crisis is better under control because of how disruptive that's going to be to the response. There's a time and a place for this, and this is neither.

Of course, because it's Trump, I'd be willing to wager that this move is less because of actual shortcomings in their handling of the crisis (since if he's genuinely looking to punish those that have failed to handle it well, he's got a little self-flagellation to look forward to), and more because they've been publicly contradicting him at pretty much every turn since this whole thing started, with their shortcomings being a convenient excuse. The man doesn't exactly handle being made to look wrong very well.
