No, the argument is "if the organization is being actively subverted by China, why should we pay for it?" The WHO has effectively acted as an extension of the CCP's propaganda wing and, by turning a blind eye at China's behest, actively played a role in the the spread of the C-Virus. And if the organization can't be trusted to do its job, why should we be throwing money at it instead of using those funds on an organization that actually does what the WHO was supposed to do?

ITP: The problem isn't that the WHO's leadership took the CCP's claims at face value and repeated them despite numerous warnings which ultimately helped the disease spread across the world, the problem is RACISM!

Granted, kinda says something about you that you're only willing to criticize majority-white nations.

It's all well and good to say that the WHO isn't doing a good enough job and needs to be replaced, but without a suitable replacement, defunding the WHO during the midst of the worst global public health crisis in a century means there's no longer going to be an international organization capable of working to manage that crisis. This sort of move needs to be saved for a time when the headline can instead read "Trump spearheads international decision to divert funds from WHO to new global public health agency," and even then it really shouldn't happen until the crisis is better under control because of how disruptive that's going to be to the response. There's a time and a place for this, and this is neither.

Of course, because it's Trump, I'd be willing to wager that this move is less because of actual shortcomings in their handling of the crisis (since if he's genuinely looking to punish those that have failed to handle it well, he's got a little self-flagellation to look forward to), and more because they've been publicly contradicting him at pretty much every turn since this whole thing started, with their shortcomings being a convenient excuse. The man doesn't exactly handle being made to look wrong very well.

They sent a shipment of supplies at a time when Canada had little or no cases.

The shipment wasn't even a dent on our total supply.

The goods Canada sent to China included 50,118 face shields, 1,101 masks, 1,820 pairs of goggles, 36,425 medical coveralls, 200,000 nitrile gloves and 3,000 aprons. The supplies were sourced by the Canadian Red Cross as well from as the government of Canadas supplies.

I agree that in retrospect it was a bad move, but it isn't likely going to make a noticeable difference in the long run. It's like not turning the shower on before evacuating a house fire.

I don't trust the globe and mail but if that's true that's still a decent amount. Bad move is a bad move. I heard just today on the radio on my way to work that the government will be distributing medical supplies to provinces soon.. so ya iunno seems like they gave away a lot of our stock.

You say that, but the WHO has ultimately done more harm than good during this crisis. Had the WHO been working properly, individual governments would have been much prepared so their systems wouldn't have been completely overrun.
