The amount of people that would have heard this, let alone interpreted it as "inject disinfectant " as a twisted paraphrase, would be significantly less if the media wasnt going to extremes to spread it. This parallels the Tide Pods thing where it wasn't widespread until the news ran hard with it and then cases spiked even higher. I'm not defending Trump's stupid remarks but this was preemptively blown way out of proportion.

The amount of people in here telling people to do it is disgusting. "If I dont agree with you then kill yourself." And y'all act like you're on moral high ground.

How are they going to extremes to spread it? The president gave a press conference for the sake of the media to record and report what he said. The media is shit sometimes but they're doing their actual job here. No one goaded the president into saying what he said, he wasn't speaking privately, and despite his backtracking, he most certainly wasn't being sarcastic. And if he really was, then he's just a bumbling idiot who is cracking jokes as the goddam president in a time when he needs to be serious.

There is really no one to blame but Trump in this case.
