I looked up the review I tweeted out about it Color Out of Space - 4/10. Hey, it's Nic Cage acting manic! Hey, it's Lovecraftian! Hey, there some WTF moments! Hey, it's not very good. That really doesn't explain much though. I just felt it was more a collection of scenes and moments than a movie that kept my attention the whole time.
I can actually understand that. Instead of happening in 3 solid parts, it kind of feels like it could be set up in at least 5-6 parts and there are a lot of moments that if you kind of miss it you really don't understand what could be going on.
For example, I didn't notice until after the movie but the symbol on the back of the daughter's cloak at the beginning of the movie was the same triangular shape of the window which they kept the mother in at the end of the movie. That, along with the ritual scarring, makes me think she had summoned the color to earth accidentally.
