Both parents make the choice to perform an action that can lead to a child. They are both responsible for it if it is brought into the world. The necessary imbalance in power over the baby comes down to who has to do the legwork to birth it. Having the option to waive rights is about the best we can allow as a society, but that doesn't stop men from disappearing off the face of the earth.
