This is just my opinion, but while the heroes are fairly balanced, the connections aren't. It's the same with any online game. If one player is playing with a latency of 20 and another is playing with a latency of 60, the 20 will usually have the advantage. Obvious exceptions for pro players of course.

Doesn't help them that so many other games have come out since then that use Blizzards own system in a different way. Also doesn't help that if a person disconnects in a ranked match you can't get someone in to fill his spot, its pretty much a lost spot and your playing 5 v 6.
