We got so many different versions of the Turtles now but if we look at the original one, the Mirage comic one, then the Foot was an old ninja clan and the Turtles did some time travels to... many places, some pre-historic. The perks with a timetravel friend I guess. If we look at the last comic version, then... Hamato Yoshi was in the Foot clan in Japan in feudal time, but he and his four sons were executed by Oroku Saki... and then they were reincarnated as a rat and four turtles in modern time. And Saki returned as the Shredder because of... a combination of alien goo and magic. So yes. Oh wow thats cool and intriguing. I like that sort of thing.
