the hype was super high prior to release, but when people actually played it it was immediately middling

some people liked it- they were just excited/relieved to have a traditional zelda game after the cel-shaded sailing one

TP delivered on the idea of a streamlined, straightforward zelda without any water temple or inscrutable world fetch quests to get in the way of beating it. the combat was comparatively fluid, the dungeons flowed naturally, and a couple of the boss fights were nice set pieces (iirc, the desert and sky bosses)

but it was a little too simple and a little too easy to leave a lasting impression. every single boss followed the same three-stage pattern, every puzzle was immediately obvious and each item's context-sensitive trigger points were clearly labeled

i have to confess, it was the first zelda game i completed from start to finish. for every other one, i had taken an extended break when i got stuck and a sibling ended up finishing the save file

i think it's a great game for a non-invested newcomer to jump into to get an overall sense of the origins of the series without becoming discouraged. then, if they like it, they can move back to the more renowned OoT, MM, and the 2d titles

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.
