My parent's home (my childhood home) has always been safely away from the fires, but every year some new neighborhood built in the fire zone was in danger.

Yeah, I vaguely remember some fires but just nothing like what I have been hearing lately, and nothing close to me in Hayward/alameda/fremont etc. My uncle lived in LA and I never heard of fires near him (and he's lived in Malibu since V.I.P aired (since he bought the home with the money from that), and just the year before last he was fighting to keep his house from burning.

Mainly it's probably just it being televised more and being in areas I actually have relatives, but I honestly lived in the Bay area for 30 something years (last 7 or so in Gilroy CA which isn't really the bay area anymore) without ever smelling smoke or seeing a large fire. There were a few brush fires on the side of the freeway etc, but nothing big.
