Lower armor class is better, and it can go negative, so good luck with that. THAC0 19, against an armor class of 8, means you need to roll 11 or better. Since roughly the start of this century: Roll the die, add your to-hit bonus. You've hit anything with that armor class or lower. Higher armor class is better.
