To
Hit
Armor
Class
0 (zero)

It's just a to-hit roll, but the math is reversed.

To Hit Amour Class 0

An outdated system that's no longer used essentially, or a modernised version is now instead that's more intuitive.

I can't explain how it works but I think it's how they calculate if someone gets hit in combat, and how much damage they take. its some kind of calculation involving their armor and hp and stamina or something like that. I think the T H means To Hit. I never really understood it. I have limited experience with actual DnD. I used to play a little of World of Darkness. I prefer that cause the system is so much simpler

To go into more detail, in ADnD 2nd edition you wanted to roll as high as possible to hit your enemy. However the lower the armour class your enemy has the higher the result you would need to roll. In order to save on maths players would calculate what number they would need to roll in order to hit an enemy with an armour class of zero, which was at the started of ADnD2 was the highest (lowest) possible armour class. If you roll a dice and had a score above your Thac0 you knew you hit your target, if you had less than that you would look at the difference between your roll and Thac0 as well as your enemies armour class above zero. It was pretty complex and part of the reason for the major changes in DnD 3rd edition.

Yes, its basically your chance to land a hit

lower is better as it states the minimum roll you need to have to hit an enemy whos AC is rated at 0

so, if your hero has a Thac0 of 10, and you swing at an enemy with AC 4, then you do 10-4 = 6, so you land a hit rolling 6 or higher (70% chance to hit)

if the same hero swings at an enemy with AC -2, then you do 10 + 2 = 12, so you have to roll 12 or higher (40% chance to hit)

Also a 1 always misses, and a 20 always hits, so the chance to hit is a maximum of 95%, and a minimum of 5%

Ye olde dayes:
Roll equal to or higher than your THACO minus the target's armor class. Lower armor class is better, and it can go negative, so good luck with that.
THAC0 19, against an armor class of 8, means you need to roll 11 or better.

Since roughly the start of this century:
Roll the die, add your to-hit bonus. You've hit anything with that armor class or lower. Higher armor class is better.
You don't even need to do algebra here, just simple addition.

As someone who sucks at math, I stick to 5e. Even 3.5 gets confusing for me. I remember having all of the equations typed out for my weapons and I only played Fighter in 3.5 because anything beyond that and I get too confused. 5e is favored for me.
