Thousands of leaked emails from climate scientists that suggested they were falsifying data, attempting to hide data and in general part of a conspiracy to make up the man-made part of global warming.

Except that's not what it was. It was basically 4 scientists in particular talking to each other, discussing discrepancies on very specific instances and the entire thing being taken wildly out of context in industry/political talking points. For example, scientist A says "we're not seeing a warming effect" but he's just talking about a 4 day period in California. The entire thing was thoroughly investigated by a dozen independent bodies who found nothing except perhaps the need for scientists to up their professionalism in their email tone.

To this day people still believe that conspiracy and it's damaged the entire climate science discussion. Wild...
The entire premise of anti intellectualism is taking things out of context and spreading it as literal fake news.

I remember this article being used against gay rights campaign:
https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2015/10/no-scientists-have-not-found-the-gay-gene/410059/

The article simply said scientist can't pinpoint specific gene that is linked to homosexuality, but more of a complex combination of various DNA spread troughout the gene map, yet the idiots use at as the support of "homosexuality is a choice" bullshit.

It is so effective in spreading false information sadly
