Snake5555555555 10/05/20 2:27:30 PM #79: | 114. Takuto Maruki (Persona 5 Royal) (12 points) Nominated by: trdl23 (4/5 remaining) Importance: 2 Fear: 5 Snake: 5 This unassuming geeky-looking doctor harbors deep, personal secrets that makes him much more than meets the eye. Takuto has the ability to warp cognition and actualize what his patients need to rid themselves of grief, even if that meant totally erasing large memories of their life. Though this could potentially be useful in treatment, Takuto sees himself as a savior of humanity and in a way performs these actions to atone for his past digressions, mainly revolving around his ex-fiance Rumi, and the traumatic death of her parents. This event actually was what triggered his Persona and subsequent powers. While Takuto is placed as an antagonist in the story, deep down, he is actually a good person and genuinely sympathizes with his patients, thematically making conflict with him less about stopping his utterly villainy and more about getting him to come to terms with his past and facing trauma head on. Takuto even ends up crafting a world where everyone automatically receives their desires and is perfectly content, but a world that perfect is by nature imperfect, as there is no room for growth or personal choice, no happiness without sadness and vice-versa. Takuto represents an interesting dichotomy that really ties well into Persona's themes of identity, choice, & personal challenge, and I really admire a video game that attempts to achieve that by taking player actions into account. --- ...
