Topic | Is the message in Cuties actually that children are overly sexualized? |

I havent seen the movie, but from what I have heard it starts off on the negatives of far right Islam, when the dad flies out to go pick up his second wife. It alienates the daughter where she seeks out the cuties group to feel appreciated. You could've fooled me because you hit the nail on the head. Though the girl at the beginning in general just doesn't like the restrictive Islamic culture and the "cuties" group was her way out of it (she sees them having fun while she wasn't having any of it). But yeah, this movie is the Artsy Fartsy Indie Oscar Bait kind of film where it follows the "show but don't tell", which is the reason why the movie is never in your face about what it's trying to convey. Though you can see why this movie is trying to make you feel uncomfortable as possible with the dance scenes, hence the camera angles and all that, which yeah I can see why it would rub people the wrong way (because it honestly does feel exploitive, like do these girls realize what's going on when filming this?). Anyway it's all in the main character girls perspective and it doesn't really say what's good and what's bad, but it's generally a story about a girl coming of age and her finding herself from 2 completely different cultures. --- DI MOLTO! ...
