But put up the current democrat Lt Gov Justin Fairfax (who's had some controversies) against a sensible candidate who happens to have an R next to their name? I'm just saying that it's a possibility. Republicans could win in Virginia if they nominate a sensible candidate, but that's a huge "if". The state GOP hasn't really adjusted towards the center as Virginia's turned more blue; if anything, they've gone even further to the right. Republican voters in Virginia don't want a moderate candidate because they aren't used to needing to moderate their views at all.
