Overlooking the fucking spoilers right in the headline, I kinda expected that this would be the case. The whole side-mission was a fucking huge waste of time and nothing about DJ's character arc suggested he'd play a large role in Rise. Granted, him not appearing at all just makes that shit worse in hindsight but, given how widely criticized that whole thing was, it's unsurprising that they moved away from it. I still haven't seen Rise, but I'm really not expecting much, although -- other than Rose & Finn's shitty sidequest -- Last Jedi was a bit better than expected, considering that TFA was the first SW movie that had me checking my watch midway through.
