I thought it was a health choice (people thinking meat is bad for you and all that) It's more of an ethical system. It's about not unnecessarily harming animals. The environmental and health benefits are just side benefits. Some people will eat a vegan diet for health but not be vegans. They might still buy things like leather clothes.
