if its as bad as the one burger king sells then its a hard pass for me. they dont know how the fuck to cook those patties, they end up overcooked. plus, they cook the damn things on the meat grease left over on the cook top, so its not like they're actually vegan...

While the sandwich itself looks pretty means, the fact that McDonald's, who has always been pretty resistant to vegetarian friendly burgers is taking this step is a pretty big deal.

That seems silly since taco bell already allows you to substitute beans for meat and in most cases it improves the taste.

Some vegans aren't really bothered by it being cooked on the same grills. For most it's more about not contributing to animal agriculture. At least at Burger King they also have the option to get it microwaved instead of grilled.

And unless you only shop at vegan grocery stores or grow your own food it's impossible for vegans to not "support" companies that support meat consumption. Most grocery stores and restaurants sell meat, so it's practically unavoidable.

so is veganism some sort of cult?

I thought it was a health choice (people thinking meat is bad for you and all that)

It's more of an ethical system. It's about not unnecessarily harming animals. The environmental and health benefits are just side benefits. Some people will eat a vegan diet for health but not be vegans. They might still buy things like leather clothes. These are people who are on a plant-based diet.

This is one of the reasons I try to avoid fast food joints (and to a lesser extent, restaurants) in general like the plague, because even if a menu item fits into my personal fit meal plans, theyre either being cooked on the same grill as other crap or possibly being cooked in that cancer in a bottle called vegetable oil.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against plant-based meat (or whatever they call it). There's just something in it that my body doesn't like. I would probably eat it if I could.

If you were to ask a vegan how they felt about abortion, nine out of ten of them would say they are pro-choice. Keeping this in mind, I can never get how people that are comfortable with aborting fetuses suddenly draw the line at not eating dead animals.

Edit: On another note, the so called health and environmental benefits of veganism is junk lol. Most vegan food has to be imported via airplanes, which last I checked still cause pollution. If the idea that eating less meat is supposed to be healthier is to be believed, countries like India would not be plagued with problems such as diabetes and heart disease.
They're pro-choice for the same reason everyone who is pro-choice is. They believe in a woman's right to bodily autonomy supersedes a fetus' rights. And vegans are generally more concerned with harm to sentient beings. Most abortions are done at stages where a fetus has very little brain activity. And I hope you have similar issues with people who are against animal cruelty but aren't bothered by the short brutal lives we put billions of farm animals through every year.

In terms of environmental impact, keep in mind that transportation is only a small part of a food's environmental impact. And the animals in animal agriculture are usually eating food that has imported ingredients as well. It takes way more plant matter to make a pound a meat than it does to make a pound of plant-based food.

And no one who knows what they are talking about would say that a plant-based diet alone is healthy. You could eat nothing but Oreos and potato chips and be on what is technically a plant-based diet. If properly planned it's very healthy, and people in a country like India are poorer and therefore have less ability to properly plan a diet.
