I think that being L or G or B or straight should be applicable to everyone, just as much for trans people as for non-trans people. So in terms of sexual preference, the T is a bit weird to me. Like, a lesbian trans is a part of the L, but then also a part of the T. Just a bit confusing.

Sure but my point is that the definitions of homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality, etc. are contingent upon your own gender. So if you are transgender then that is part of what defines your sexuality (unless youre pan or ace, etc.) because of the way we define sexual attraction (i.e. between same or different sexes). As another example, if Im born a gay man, and I transition to become a woman, but still like men, then Im straight, even though I may have spent a portion of my life gay. And if Im genderqueer or non-binary, I might go back and forth between identifying as a man or a woman (or neither) and that changes my sexuality as well. This (among other reasons) is why the T is part of the group.
