Just a quick glance at covid stats per capita across the country and number of deaths and cases per capita are fairly uniform throughout the entire nation. And still, the overwhelming majority of covid cases, regardless of whether a state is red or blue, are in the major cities which are all blue.

Not saying that this is because they're run by democrats, but what i am saying is that the mayors in these cities were within their legal ability (due to trumps executive orders involving lockdowns) to add regulations and restrictions in addition to whatever state mandates, or lack thereof, that there were.

Sometimes the governors would fight back but, if anything, the situation with Kemp fighting mayor bottoms on regulations showed that the local level generally triumphs in such situations. And ironically enough, the local level is the best place to fight anything enacted unconstitionally by the state or federal government. Federal and state do not trump local authority. It's not hierarchical. It's separate spheres of influence and all are subject to the constitution which is the only higher authority period
