As someone who has given you a lot of shit over the years, the growth youve shown particularly in the last year has been really nice to witness. We still vehemently disagree on a lot of issues, but its great to see that your knee jerk reaction isnt to deflect away from conservative bullshit and give the most worthless hot takes imaginable. I hope you keep looking for facts and solutions to political problems through an empathetic lens because youve always seemed capable of doing that when discussing your job.

It sucks that youve had to experience and watch your family experience such shittiness and racism. Im glad there is a national conversation going on right now about anti-Asian racism. There are a lot of Asian stereotypes and assumptions that I didnt even really think of as issues until well into my adult life, and I hate thinking about how I had perpetuated that shit personally. Im glad were all able to grow, and I hope the country as a whole can do the same.

I don't really have any excuses for why I said the things I said or believed the things I believed. The most important thing I've learned through this whole ordeal is the importance and value of being willing to accept you're wrong and to change your mind. People don't have to be defined by a set ideology, and those who feel so obligated to defend things that aren't right are only hurting themselves.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I learned that seeking the object of truth is far more important than "being right" and that being wrong and learning from it is infinitely more valuable than being wrong and stubborn about it.

Helping Doom art, a person I used to disagree with strongly on political grounds, through his tough time with lymphoma was really the start. It was the crack in the firmament, reminding me that we are all humans first, Americans second, and political parties last. That is just one of many things that I can no longer sit back idly and allow Republicans to dictate.
