For those that don't know, I'm half-Chinese. My brother looks considerably more Chinese than I do; I pretty much got everything from my dad, aside from brown (instead of blonde) hair. Pretty much nobody would even guess I'm half-Asian based on my looks.

But my brother has dealt with discrimination his whole life, and it's really starting to get to me because he always passes it off as "no big deal."

Except it is. It's a huge deal. It's NOT cool that people say shit like "I bet you play piano all the time" or "go back to where you came from." Particularly because I'm literally the same amount of Chinese as he is, yet they let me off the hook solely because of looks. He doesn't deserve it - we are born and raised here in the United States. We're Americans. The fact that I had to comfort my mother every time Trump and his supporters called COVID19 the "Chinese Virus," which resulted in passive-aggressive treatment from the conservatives in her neighborhood, is just distressing.

I'm in a very unique situation as someone who would be called a "white person" by a passerby, but I live in a Chinese family and I know our customs and lifestyle. I know how we're judged, and how we're portrayed by the media. Yet I also know what it's like to not be on the receiving end of those judgments. And it's wrong. It's ****ing ridiculous, Republicans. Grow the fuck up.

Anybody of Asian decent, and people who look similar need to becareful being outside and watch surroundings at all time.

I don't have any excuses for my political beliefs before my change in philosophy, suffice it to say that the gop/conservative misinformation echo chamber is much larger, and more convincing than anyone can truly understand. Extracting myself from it and looking back, I have no excuses for the crazy things I believed. It's sort of like leaving a cult and looking back on it. Republicans, and certainly the modern ones, are sustained by a complex, comprehensive flood of misinformation and heavily biased media that distort their viewpoints in ways that make them more palatable than they should be.

The fact that a large percentage of Republicans weren't immediately appalled and disgusted by Trump's post-election insanity is a testament to how truly f***** up the GOP misinformation echo chamber really is. Literally every conspiracy they had was debunked within minutes, but the truth didn't matter to them, just the fire hosing.

But really, it was simply analyzing all the other viewpoints they had through a lens not distorted by that misinformation echo chamber that made me realize how deplorable and disgusting they really are. On virtually every issue. They sanitize their viewpoints with buzz words and dog whistling, but in reality they are an extreme party run by racists and paranoid conspiracy theorists.

Completely this!! Why the gut reaction to condemning someone forever instead of accepting their positive change and moving on?

It's been a while since I've had any direct racism pointed at me (despite living in Georgia), maybe because I'm Indian subcontinent Asian. Still my nephew and niece are young (four and two) and mixed and I really don't want them to face a lot of the subtle racism me and my sister experienced.

I had her labeled as a "I'm not a Trump supporter, but...."
