If you save ammo you'll have a whole arsenal in your item box by the end of the game full of shit you never ended up using. Most new players try to dodge enemies because they've been told to save ammo and they end up using all their healing items which are more scarce than ammo is. A new player also has no idea what rooms they're going to be revisiting. You're going to really wish you cleared rooms when you're trying to get through a narrow hallway with two zombies, two lickers and Mr. X chasing you.
