I always hated how everyone at the time deemed 5ds card games on motorcycles as too wacky but forgot (or more likely didnt know) that earlier than that in gx they launched cards into SPACE and years later jaden who designed them as a child went to go get them so he could duel aliens GX was inherently goofy so they could get away with a lot of the weird twists. The series was conceptually similar to the fan dub done for the lulz. 5D's afaik was more thematically similar to the first YGO run where it was intended to be more serious. Plus with GX that was something that came waaaaaaay later whereas the motorcycles are literally in the posters.
