I still argue that they didnt appear way late, the god cards don't show up untill episodes in the 50s but no one says that the god cards showed up waaaay late in OG

That's a weird, forced comparison. First, you're talking about cards introduced many episodes earlier in a series that ran much longer (so, relatively speaking, it takes up less of the run).

Otherwise the viewership numbers for YGO! DM were likely far higher than YGO! GX (and GX was so far ahead of 5D's that most peoples' -- by which I mean people who had watched DM -- knowledge of 5D's is just the posters) and they watched further into it. Personally, I checked out either after or near the end of battle city. I watched most of the first season of GX then, for whatever reason, I caught some episodes from season 2. I imagine a lot of people are like me who didn't even realize there was a third season of GX >_>

Plus the bikes were just a fucking weird concept that didn't go well with a card game. You can nitpick this and that, but thematically it just wasn't a fit. Meanwhile something like the Neo Spacians were very much like what the show had been doing from the beginning. And it's a lot easier for people say, "Yeah, fuck it, I'll go with it," when they've already watched a season with other crazy shit. I took one look at 5D's and was like, "Nope." Had it looked like they were playing the whole thing as a goof, I might have been interested. And honestly, the DS game wasn't that bad. They just picked a really terrible gimmick that's very out front which is why people are much more likely to make fun of it.
