As far as when or why you get a flare up I don't know. Surgery to fix the problem is pretty much to cut out the infected section of colon and stitch it back together. I had to have an ostomy bag for a month, but my case was pretty bad I guess. after the surgery things have gotten interesting in the waste department. lots of nugget sized poops.
