I haven't played Dark Souls in a long time but if you have a decent health pool and something with decent physical and fire resistance and a lot of poise like the full set of Havel's Armor, you can tank Gwyn's attacks without getting knocked back while trying to get the timing down to parry his attacks. You can parry him mid combo. I always feel weird using the heavier armor because of the slower roll, but I could give it a shot. Last time I tried, I was only able to accurately parry one specific attack that was like, the second hit in a combo? Which made it riskier lol. I don't use magic, just melee and a shield.
