The same could be said for the original versions of the original trilogy (and other scifi from around that time). A lot was slapped together with real stuff, but a lot of it looked incomplete, and both the actors and the viewers basically have to use their imagination to fill in the blanks and fantasize about what the rest of those worlds would look like. Which is fine. The same can be done with books, games, plays, and CGI movies as well.
