Watched them all pretty recently - first time for Eps 8 and 9 and my first time watching 3 since soon after it came out. Have a bit of a soft spot for Ep 1, but find myself cringing so much at 2 and 3. The sequels weren't great but I think the "lows" weren't as bad overall.

The script-writing of the prequels kinda sucked, but generally I liked it well enough. I enjoyed the visuals (seriously, I have no idea why everyone kept bashing CGI. Yeah, it's not the same as 'real', but that's not always a bad thing) and I liked that they tried some different stuff than the 'traditional' story lines like rebels vs empire.

As for the sequels, I liked TFA, no complaints about it. Understandable that they played it safe. Just a good, nice, fun SW movie that hits all the sweet spots. The big mistake about the sequel trilogy was that none of it was planned out in advance, which ended up biting them in the ass hard.
TLJ was first SW movie I sincerely thought was bad (not counting Holiday Special or other crap like that). The fact that TLJ seemed to lead nowhere and closed the story to any potentially interesting directions, and the fact that Rogue One and Solo were mediocre at best really put a dent in my faith in Disney-controlled SW. So much in fact that I haven't watched TROS to this day (I know what it is about, and that only makes me not want to see it even more).

It is when everything surrounding the actors is just a big green screen, though. It just doesn't look right, and it affects the performances too, since the actors have no reference for anything they're doing.

The CGI in the prequels is extremely ugly because its divorced from all contextualization to something that isn't a textureless sheen of blank rubber, with only a few people plopped in. It looks the best in Phantom Menace because that seems like the only one of the three where they bothered making sets rather than just plopping the actors in front of a green screen and giving them the impossible task of making it seem like they exist within a world they can't interact with.

I think that the scale of the Clone Wars make the galaxy feel massive and cool sci-fi powerful in a way that fails to come across with the smaller rebellion focus of the sequels or even the originals tbh.

I grew up with the prequels so I'm inherently biased however

going in with no plan really doomed the sequels. I can sit down and consume just about any Star Wars content, but when it comes to the sequels I just.... don't want to. TFA was fine enough but TLJ and TROS are just outright bad. I'll even give TLJ some credit, I didn't actually hate it until Rose saved Finn. And then I was just mad that they totally cucked a cool moment

The sequels have a ton of problems almost entirely taking place in that last movie where Disney tried to get rid of everything new they tried in TLJ.

But TFA and TLJ are so unbelievably better than anything in the prequels its still not a contest. And I grew up liking the Prequels. And TFA and TLJ aren't even that good!

The same could be said for the original versions of the original trilogy (and other scifi from around that time). A lot was slapped together with real stuff, but a lot of it looked incomplete, and both the actors and the viewers basically have to use their imagination to fill in the blanks and fantasize about what the rest of those worlds would look like. Which is fine. The same can be done with books, games, plays, and CGI movies as well.

The prequels are garbage. I still pick them over the sequels.

I often find myself watching clips from the prequels, and listening to the music. I watched TFA and TLJ only once, and I never felt like revisiting anything about them again.

There are lots of things that I think the sequels did better but they almost all pertain to film-making and not the actual Star Wars franchise itself.

The CG is loads better, you'd hope so 20 years later. The cinematography is better, so much that it's a crutch thats gets leaned into nearly every shot. The practical effects, sets and costumes are breathtaking, far beyond anything we have seen in the prequels.

The dramatic tension of the prequels were deflated by the original trilogy. We all knew that Anakin would eventually become Darth Vader and that Obi-Wan would live to be an old man before meeting Luke. The prequels mainly existed to give depth to the lore prior to the empire's reign, which I'm grateful for because we got some incredible videogames and The Clone Wars animated series out of it. The current lore established by the sequel trilogy is shaky at best.

The sequels weren't burdened by the previous stories, only it's lore and world rules. They could have done literally anything and told an incredible story that would leave new and old fans in awe but instead they didn't even bother.

More cocaine went up the writer's noses than thought was put into the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the writing and screenplay at least. The production team knocked it way out of the park though.

Recently, the prequels have felt very dry to me upon rewatches. Although I"ve hate-watched the sequels more times than I could count. I love Star Wars and always will but the mainline movies are a reverse shitburger.

I've grown to accept and even appreciate Hayden Christensen's performance, it isn't perfect but all 3 movies have stilted acting and Natalie Portman's is worst than Hayden's. Boba Fett is my favorite. I love Jango and the clones too so of the prequels, Attack of the Clones is my favorite.

The Last Jedi is still my favorite of the sequels but only because I think it's technically impressive and a living joke on how Disney could miss the mark so bad. I love the movie for all the wrong reasons and I hate that Rian Johnson feigns pride and refuses to admit even the smallest short-comings. I absolutely despise Rise of the Skywalker and The Force Awakens is a half-hearted handjob.

I guess I like the lore and the world of the prequels more than I like whatever the fuck the sequels left us with. Disney is already hoping that good will towards The Mandalorian will be enough to keep fans hooked until they can scrub all of the shit off of the franchise. Strange time to be a Star Wars fan...

Revenge of the sith is my favorite star wars movie and Last Jedi was my least favorite. The other four movies in the PT and ST are basically interchangeable in my enjoyment and below the OT.

I find the general premise and time period of the PT more interesting than the OT or the ST, even if the prequels weren't particularly well directed or written. Fortunately the clone wars cartoon more than made up for the prequel trilogy's shortcomings.

They're all just popcorn flicks to me though.
