There are a lot of specific 'types' of prescription medications that people have allergies to, not necessarily specific ones. Penicillins and Sulfas being prominent. Information like the initial example makes sense for people with those allergies.

The warnings almost never say something like "Don't take PotDulax if you're allergic to shellfish or penicillin", though. What they're making fun of is how a lot of ads these days say something like "Don't take PotDulax if you're allergic to PotDulax."

To which the only rational reply is: "No shit."

If you actually know you're allergic to something, and you need someone to tell you not to take things you're allergic to, what you should actually be taking is probably cyanide.
