Dumb legal liability speak Im sure. Harder to sue them if you end up being allergic and get hospitalized because they told you not to take it if youre allergic despite you obviously having no way of knowing

Years and years worth of frivolous lawsuits have made that sort of thing almost mandatory.

"What's that? Sticking a fork in my eye will potentially blind me? Well, you didn't warn me on the fork packaging, so lawsuit! Whoooo!"

At a certain point, you just go "Okay, fine, everyone on Earth is suffering brain damage and we need to treat you all like 3-year olds" because you're tired of fighting off greedy stupid people in court.

There are a lot of specific 'types' of prescription medications that people have allergies to, not necessarily specific ones. Penicillinsand Sulfas being prominent. Information like the initial example makes sense for people with those allergies.

The warnings almost never say something like "Don't take PotDulax if you're allergic to shellfish or penicillin", though. What they're making fun of is how a lot of ads these days say something like "Don't take PotDulax if you're allergic to PotDulax."

To which the only rational reply is: "No shit."

If you actually know you're allergic to something, and you need someone to tell you not to take things you're allergic to, what you should actually be taking is probably cyanide.

I "like" how they're advertising directly to consumers in the first place. Like wtf? And it's not like most of these commercials even list benefits compared to competitors.
