Sure they're willing to kill when its convenient for something else, but overall they'd rather you just submit, than have to kill you. The second amendment creates a situation where the tyrant, no matter how big his army, has to kill the armed citizen or they'll never assume the full control they want. The only other option is for the tyrant to give up. All these individual citizens stand no chance against the standing army, or their high tech equipment.
