But I'd have to explain myself to my friends, and I just didn't want to do that. I wanted to be honest with them. I wanted to tell them the truth. "Well, I just feel like . . . no offense to you, TC, but I just don't feel like seeing you. It's just that I've had a very rough few days. I don't know if you can relate, but you know how I am. I just get so upset. So, you understand." My eyes would have been really wide at the time I told you that, and it would be obvious I was lying through my teeth. But you wouldn't even look surprised, just taking it in stride. "Yeah, I understand," you'd say. "And just because I wanted to see you in the past week, I can't force you to come to me or anything.
